“Feeling Something from Long Ago”
Scotland Fine Art Photography was brought to life when I finally had the opportunity to visit Scotland in 2016, fulfilling a long-held place at the top of my travel list. Significantly, extensive planning was dedicated to this trip, primarily due to Scotland’s prolonged winter season. Indeed, there are only a few months during which one can explore the highlands due to the presence of snow. Consequently, careful consideration was given to choosing the optimal time to experience the breathtaking landscapes of Scotland’s highlands in their full glory.
Travel In Scotland
Additionally, getting around Scotland is challenging as an independent traveler. The cars are small, and the roads are very narrow (plus they drive on the opposite side than the U.S.), so making a self-driving trip takes some skill. Also, since there are no direct flights from the Washington, D.C area, I flew into Dublin, Ireland, then connected via a small jet to Edinburgh, Scotland.
Beauty Of Scotland
However, despite these challenges, Scotland was truly magical and worth the effort to get there. The picturesque landscapes of mountains and lakes, the romantic ruins of castles, and the quaint small towns make for a memorable trip.
Edinburgh (fine art photography)
Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, garners renown for its rich heritage, vibrant culture, and lively festivals. Equally important are the buildings and monuments owing to Edinburgh’s eventful past. High up on the hill is world famous Edinburgh Castle.
Inverness
Inverness, with its intriguing legend of the Loch Ness monster, holds more than just mythical tales. Additionally, it is widely regarded as the capital of the Scottish Highlands. The city offers a remarkable blend of historical treasures, including medieval ruins and captivating prehistoric sites. While Inverness serves as a gateway to the west, it is undeniably a destination that deserves dedicated exploration. So, taking the time to discover the hidden gems of Inverness will undoubtedly enrich your Scottish Highland experience.
Isle of Skye (fine art photography)
Without a doubt, The Isle of Skye stands out as the epitome of breathtaking scenery in the entire United Kingdom. Alongside the picturesque green hills, you will discover captivating lakes and winding waterways. Moreover, the sight of the bustling harbor adorned with boats, complemented by the vibrant colors of the houses nestled on the side of cliffs, creates a truly spectacular panorama. The Isle of Skye is a haven for those seeking natural beauty, where every corner reveals a captivating vista that will leave you in awe.
Oban (fine art photography)
Oban is best known for its exceptional Scotch Whisky. However, it’s worth mentioning that the sailboats gracefully dotting the Bay of Oban offer a picture-perfect view. In addition to visiting the renowned Oban Distillery, I highly recommend making a stop at the delightful whiskey bar in town. This way, you can immerse yourself in the rich whiskey culture that thrives in this charming coastal town.
